Tweety has taught us that a one-person electric vehicle is far more practical than we previously thought. Heidi’s original daily driver was a Ford Explorer. Its monthly fuel cost is a large portion of Tweety’s payments. Additionally, routine maintenance for the Explorer is now one-third the original cost. After a few months we were able to check Tweety’s energy cost from our electric bill. We found that Tweety consumes just over one-half cent per mile. That equates to about 400 miles per gallon! And that includes the Austin Green Choice Plan, which adds a bit to the bill for wind power. That does not mean, however, that we drive Tweety with a light foot!
Another thing Tweety has taught us: ‘The old adage, “Seeing is believing” is an understatement.’ We have found that describing electric vehicles to people is typically a hard sell. However, when they see Tweety, it is a totally different story. Everywhere we go Tweety draws a crowd. Going to the store takes much longer now because of all the people gathered around asking questions.
Tweety is driven every day, trading between Heidi and Ken. It is driven it in all types of weather; sunny days, heavy rain even freezing weather. It is driven in aggressive traffic and goes with any flow of traffic even on the interstate. The NmG is smooth, solid and stable all the way up to 75 MPH. We do not feel intimidated by big SUVs or semis.
Tweety’s agility and ability to dart about quickly instills confidence even when surrounded by aggressive Hummers. Heidi just loves her drive down IH-35. The expression on motorist’s faces as she passes them is priceless. Instead of, “Please go around, it’s electric”, it is, “Yes, you were just passed by an electric vehicle”! Often people struggle to keep up with Tweety as they hope to follow along to the destination so they can find out what it is. They are always drop-jaw amazed that it is electric. Many exclaim they did not know an electric car was possible, much less one with so much performance.
We are absolutely having a blast with this car! Tweety has exceeded our expectations in so many ways; it benefits our daily life far more that expected, it draws attention like we never imagined and it is far more fun than we imagined it could be. Heidi and Ken both come from automotive oriented backgrounds and have always enjoyed cars. Ken has been into high power hot rods all his life, but says he doesn’t remember ever having this much fun. |
