Ron knows
that the daily commutes are when drivers generate
the most pollution. He never intended for his Myers
Motors NmG to replace his other car, but realized
he could reduce the amount of pollution that he
creates by driving it for single-passenger trips.
Ron said that an additional bonus for him is the
opportunity to "thumb my nose at the
gas pumps."
But the NmG is so much fun to drive that Ron does
more than commute to work in it. He said that frequently
after work he will recharge his EV for a couple of
hours so he can go for an extended drive. Sometimes
he drives to nearby small towns on the weekends just
to show it off. He also enjoys the interaction with
the other drivers who give him the thumbs up over
their own steering wheels. He found that the trunk
is a convenient size to carry home his groceries
or other items from the store. Of course, he usually
finds several people admiring his NmG when he walks
out to the mall parking lot.
Ron said that he likes to
see how younger kids react to the vehicle when
they see him coming down the street. Younger children
who are out with their parents will stop and jump
up and down and wave so he beeps at them. Young
people often call out, "Hey mister,
we like your car." His 11-year-old daughter's
school friends often report to her when they have
seen him out and about. A lot of the school kids
like that it is a zero-emissions vehicle and his
daughter gets to brag that her dad is doing something
to promote air clean instead of just talking about
it.
Ron loves to collect electronic gear like RC planes,
so an electric vehicle was an easy choice for him.
He decided to buy the Myers Motors NmG because he
liked the looks. Plus, as he recently told a local
reporter, the NmG's stereo/CD player, power windows,
heater, and trunk were basically everything he wanted
in a car. Some of his family originally viewed EV
purchase as another toy and expressed concerned with
how much household electricity the EV would consume.
However, they were soon pleased to discover that
its recharge needs are very reasonable.
Ron would have liked owning an NmG as a driveable
toy, but he really enjoys the bonus of doing his
part to help the environment.
