When Willie first saw the Sparrow in 2001 he knew
he wanted one to help advertise his Ozone, New York
store, Stereo Upgrade . The unique design,
which Myers
Motors carried over to the new NmG personal
electric vehicle, definitely grabs attention.
Willie customized the exterior to advertise
his store. He quickly discovered that parking
the vehicle in front of his shop was a "great
way to get some stares looking at the front
door" of his business.
Willie
began driving the EV to work about three times
a week. Because it is easier to find parking
for a small vehicle in a busy city like New
York , he takes it for errands like banking.
He regularly drives the EV to the convenience
store, and even takes it to the hardware store
when he needs something for the shop.
Usually he finds
several people have stopped in the store lot
to admire the parked EV. Willie really enjoys
coming up to the vehicle with his arms full
of purchases because someone in the crowd will
ask where he plans to put everything. Willie
just smiles, clicks the remote control that
he installed to open the trunk, and enjoys
the looks on their faces as he stows his wares. |

Willie describes
the vehicle as "one
of the enjoyments of my life." He gets a kick
out of watching the other driver's surprise at how
much power it has when he takes off. He also loves
taking his EV to car shows and stealing the attention
from more well-known vehicles. At one show, he even
overshadowed a Shelby Series 1 on display. After
six years of driving it, Willie's EV is still newsworthy.
The New York Daily News just published
an article on Willie and his Sparrow in November
of 2006 .
Willie has taken his EV through
all the tunnels and bridges of New York City and traveled
through four of the five boroughs. He has taken it
out to Long Island on occasion and recharged it at
a friend's house while visiting. Overall, the vehicle
has passed his expectations and held up well to some
seriously poor driving conditions. Willie said that
this vehicle is "perfect for me whether it's parked
in my showroom, at home, or on the road." He went
on to say, "If you want something that no one
has, buy one. It's definitely a lot of fun. |
